AUGUST/SEPTEMBER 2004 BROADSHEET - Annual Garden Party

As you can see, it is a slight change of name and of logo for the CETC’s new year.  The Club believes that the modified name more accurately reflects its remit and activities.  However, the format of events that has proved successful and popular over recent years will continue.

Annual Garden Party

There was a celebratory feel to the CETC’s annual garden party, held on the evening of 5 August in the beautiful setting of Jesus College and enjoyed by almost 100 attendees in glorious weather.

Valerie Dring MBE of NatWest gave the evening an excellent start, by presenting the Club with a sponsorship cheque for £1,000.  Chairman Roy Cuthbert thanked NatWest for its significant financial support and also thanked the Club’s events sponsors, St John’s Innovation Centre and TWI.  Mr Cuthbert, who is the MD of Webtec Products, explained to the audience about the change of name from the former Cambridge Europe & Technology Club (as had been agreed at the Club’s AGM) and about the Club’s new ambitions.  He then received a silver salver, to mark his 10 years of service on the CETC Committee, presented to him by the CETC’s founding Chairman, Dr Malcolm Wilkinson, MD of Technology For Industry.

Dr Wilkinson himself and another long-serving CETC member, Tony Hooley, the CEO of 1Limited, also received gifts in acknowledgement of their contributions to the Club over the years.  Club President, Walter Herriot OBE, then offered some business views, in his usual trenchant and perceptive way.  Other thanks were offered by the typically humorous Hon Secretary, Guy Mulley from NW Brown Group.

Guests stayed until long after dusk, taking the chance both to network and to listen to the music of the Cambridge University Brass Ensemble.
